Early Nude Couple
This
is the earliest erotic drawing of Dud’s in my collection. There is a companion female nude, which appears
to be from the same series, in MGM’s collection.
This piece features Dud’s early style of
signature with a capital “D”. The signature
is unusual because the majority of his work, whether erotic or not, is
unsigned.
This piece is a good example of
the variety of Dud’s artistic style. It features a very stylized pen and ink
drawing of a nude couple kissing marked by both its economy of line and
sweeping curves.
The female figure is
unique in that she has no pubic hair as indicated by the simple curved line
representing her bare vulva. Although common
today, it was not in 1944.
The 1944 date
is interesting to note because Dud was drafted into the Army in 1941 and served
until 1946.
The lighter colored border
is the original paper color. At some
point in time it had been matted and framed and hung where exposure to light
darkened the paper.
